Judith Lies
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 27 years, Judith is a founder of HEARTWOOD Mindfulness Practice Center, (now in its 9th year) and has been an instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in medical, mental health, professional, educational, religious, and corporate settings for 19 years.
She completed the professional training with Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1993 and currently studies with Thich Nhat Hanh and his monks and nuns in France and the U.S. to continue to deepen her mindfulness practice. She is also Lay Ordained in Thich Nhat Hanh's Order of Interbeing, and has been the primary facilitator of the Blooming Heart Sangha in the tradition of Thinch Nhat Hanh for 10 years. In 2003, Judith completed the Being with Dying course developed by Joan Halifax.
Judith offered a four year training with a group of United Methodist Ministers from across the state in Mindfulness, Buddhism, and Christianity. She has been honored at both RESTORE Conferences as a Healer Mentor in the Twin Cities; mentored her 5th MBSR Instructor, all of which are now teaching MBSR in areas across the state. Last fall, Judith was an MBSR Instructor in a fourth research project sponsored by the University of Minnesota and the Women's Heart Health Program of the Minneapolis Heart Health Institute/Foundation and was hired to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction to the Professional Staff at Hazelden.
She periodically facilitates the University of Minnesota Student Mindfulness Group, and helped to create Abbott Northwestern Hospitals Center for Health and Healing Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program.
This fall she will again be teaching MBSR in St. Paul at the River Garden Yoga Studio, and at a new location, Well Within in Woodbury. Plans are also being made in the next 6 months for a course at Augsburg College.
Please read further to learn just a few of Judith's offerings in the Twin Cities over the past few years in medical, mental health professional, corporate, educational and volunteer settings.
